Information Systems Assistant

This position is located in the Field Technology Section of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), duty station Abyei. The incumbent will report directly to the FTS Operations Officer or their designate.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Information Technology Assistant is responsible for the following duties:

Information Technology Support:Assists w

  • ith the planning of information systems projects within the mission, monitoring the progress of the systems analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of new, moderately complex systems, and/or, participates as a member of a team with responsibility for major components of more complex systems;
  • Supports the development of technical specifications for the procurement of equipment and contractual services, and coordinates the technical evaluation of offers and proposals received;
  • Assists the team with the development, implementation and monitoring of information systems standards, guidelines and procedures;
  • Assists the team with the development of detailed systems and other functional specifications and user documentation as required;
  • Provides advice to users, analyzing user requirements and translating these into new applications; determines application systems integration and linkage issues;
  • Supports the team with the development of training materials, operating and user manuals and trains staff in the use of assigned systems;
  • Researches, analyses and evaluates new technologies and makes recommendations for their deployment;
  • Participates in writing reports and papers on systems-related topics, system requirements, information strategy etc;

Project Support:

  • Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer systems projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment, etc.

IT and Special Equipment Support:

  • Drafts end-user and/or technical documentation
  • Acts as problem escalation point for technical staff at lower levels; escalates problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure; monitors problems to resolution; detects problem patterns and recommends solutions
  • Performs quality assurance procedures to ensure client satisfaction

Operations Support

  • Coordinates extensively with service units and liaises frequently with internal team members both at Headquarters and in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all required spare parts and supplies are in place;
  • Coordinates the scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance on ICT equipment
  • Coordinates with the Asset Management Unit on proper inventory of records
  • Organizes the receiving and inspection of new equipment
  • Assists in formulating the training curriculum and in-house training programs for staff and others within the unit.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent and training in IT is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

  • Industry Networking and ICT security certifications are desirable.

Work Experience

  • At least six years of working experience in providing ICT operational support services related to Information technology and communications and/or ICT operations support is required
  • Two (2) year experience in Implementing enterprise Wide Area Network, Local Area Network and information security related projects is required.
  • Experience in international operations in a post-conflict environment is desirable.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
