The Centre is looking for a Junior Financial Economist who will support the work of the Head of Latin America and the Caribbean Unit, to carry out policy-relevant financial economic analysis of emerging and developing economies, with a particular focus on the financing pattern of growth companies. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Head of Latin America and the Caribbean Unit.

Main Responsibilities:

Research, Analysis and Drafting:

  • Contribute to the assessment and policy issues, identify data needs and evidence-based policy analysis on aspects affecting the development of financial markets in emerging economies with a focus on LAC.
  • Conduct research and provide technical analysis with respect to financing options available to companies in emerging economies, identify financing challenges face by them as well as their ability to access market-based financing.
  • Carry out and support data analysis, including panel data sets of corporate financial statements and time series of relevant financial information, by collecting, processing and analysing raw data.
  • Prepare and support high-quality technical research documents, project reports and policy briefs/articles targeted at non-technical audiences and the media.

Events organisation and Liaison:

  • Participate in missions, as required, and in discussions in expert groups and assist in organising meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences related to the work on financial markets of the Latin America and the Caribbean Unit.
  • Keep abreast of capital markets developments and public policies affecting growth companies’ access to financing in emerging economies, and on initiatives taken by governments to support corporate access to financing and to address the potential risk of default and increases in non‑performing loans in emerging economies, as well as academic and policy-relevant literature.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Academic Background:

  • An advanced university degree, preferably in Finance, Economics, Business and Finance or related fields. A PhD would be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of financial economics, corporate finance and capital markets is required.

Professional Background:

  • A minimum of four years' experience in policy analysis, financial economics, corporate finance and capital markets.
  • Previous experience in an international organisation, academia, government ministry, relevant private sector organisations, or NGO would be an advantage.
  • Proven record of analytical work, in particular in corporate finance analysis and capital markets (analytical reports and/or published papers).
  • Experience in the preparation and use of quantitative and qualitative information, and in the use of databases, required software and knowledge in programming languages is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications and networking skills. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and in a compelling manner to different audiences.

Tools:

  • Proficiency in the use of standard software applications.
  • Proven experience in the handling of panel data sets and time series.
  • Proficiency in the use of statistical programming (such as Matlab, MS Office, STATA, SQL, Python, R, among others) and techniques to find the appropriate channel to communicate the findings and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in the use of commercial databases such as ORBIS, Refinitiv, FactSet, CRSP, Compustat, Bloomberg, among others.

Languages:

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level.
  • Knowledge of other languages would be considered an asset.
