IFC has pledged to significantly increase its investments in climate-related projects and to promote digitalization across industries and sectors, as a way to further sustainability and inclusiveness in emerging markets. IFC plans to deliver on these commitments by working with clients to help them develop and implement their own climate and digitalization strategies and projects. Key areas of focus include agricultural supply chain development, conservation of biodiversity, farmer and producer organization training and decarbonization of the agricultural sector.

In this context, IFC is seeking a highly motivated Operations Analyst, to be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The candidate must be a self-starter, capable of taking initiative to cover a range of tasks, able to thrive in a small, entrepreneurial team/environment and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Duties and Accountabilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the implementation of World Bank Operations in Fiji, with a focus on timeliness, quality and results. The Operations Analyst may also be required to support operations elsewhere in the South Pacific.
  • Support research and analytical tasks on a wide range of operational, country and sector issues and review and interpret information/data, identify issues and recommend actions/solutions. 
  • Participate – when requested - in World Bank implementation support visits and assist tasks teams in addressing implementation challenges including by providing hand on supporting to help clients use Bank systems.
  • Provide guidance to task teams on operations procedures and help resolve operations issues.
  • Provide guidance to task teams on national procedures and processes relevant to Operations.
  • Support the strengthening of relations with a broad range of stakeholders in Fiji.
  • Contribute to specific operational activities at all stages of the project cycle, including participation in the design and development of specific project components, coordination with development partners, implementation support, M&E and reporting.
  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of strategy documents such as the Country Partnership Framework (CPF), CPF Performance and Learning Review, and CPF Completion and Learning Review (CLR); prepare sections of the strategy documents; review and screen relevant documents/reports for consistency with the CPF and other strategy documents.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of the Action Plan for Country Portfolio Performance Reviews.
  • Prepare and update country briefs and presentations.
  • The Operations Analyst will support the preparation of key high-level visits to Fiji and the South Pacific and key meetings/events under the guidance of the Resident Representative.  
  • Coordinate operational and country team meetings for the country offices.
  • Respond to ad hoc information requests from internal and external parties. 
  • Carry out other activities upon assignment by the Resident Representative.

Selection Criteria

  • A Master Degree (MA/MS) in economics, public policy, business administration, social science, or other relevant discipline, plus a minimum of two (2) years of direct relevant experience.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills and proven ability to apply these in carrying out complex research and operational tasks, identifying issues, presenting findings/recommendations and contributing to resolution of sector and country issues.
  • Strong understanding of project management concepts.
  • Excellent data analysis skills and ability to quickly compile and verify information and produce concise, well-written documents and correspondence in English.  
  • Excellent communications skills, both in oral presentations and in writing sections of papers, briefs, independent reports, etc. 
  • Excellent skills in wide range of computer programs and in the use of relevant software applications, including Word, Excel and Power Point.  Willingness and ability to learn new programs.  
  • Capacity to work simultaneously on a variety of issues and tasks, independently adjusting to priorities and achieving results with agreed objectives and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with internal/external partners and promote collaboration in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying operational processes and procedures, as well as awareness of the World Bank’s strategy, objectives, work program, and investment portfolio.
  • Knowledge of civil society organizations, dynamics and positions in Fiji and the South Pacific would be a benefit.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
