  • Under the overall authority of the Director of the World Heritage Centre, the direct supervision of Chief of the Africa Unit and in close collaboration with the Natural Heritage Unit, the incumbent shall perform activities related to implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention for the Africa region. In particular, he/she shall:
  • Implementation of the Regional Action Plan (2021-2027): Zanzibar Capacity-Building for the establishment of the Heritage Revolving Fund in Zanzibar: Assist in the coordination of capacity-building activities and:
  • Draft Terms of Reference for the National Expert for the establishment of the Heritage Revolving Fund in Zanzibar,
  • Draft the minutes of the introductory meeting between Cultural Heritage Financial Alliance (CHiFA) and stakeholders for the establishment of the Fund,
  • Prepare an interim report informing on the process of the implementation of the project.
  • Capacity Building for Nomination projects and World Heritage Convention promotion in East Africa Region: Assist in the organization of capacity building activities in Kenya and Tanzania, including:
  • Organize online meetings with authorities responsible for Heritage, and stakeholders involved in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in Kenya and Tanzania to come up with a clear work plan for the implementation of the project, and prepare draft minutes of the meetings,
  • Prepare ToRs for contracts concerning Tanzania project,
  • Provide chapters of the report concerning Kenya and Tanzania to be included in the final report for the donor.

Management plan of Asmara: A Modernist African City: Assist in the coordination of the project and:

  • Draft the concept note including a workplan for the implementation of the project,
  • Draft the Terms of reference of the international expert and the national institution which implement it,
  • Provide an interim report.

Follow up of Integrating World Heritage in the Curricula of Institutions of Higher Learning in Africa:

  • Assist in the preparation of a draft concept note for the creation of Heritage education Hubs in Africa,
  • Organize online meetings with universities in Africa to discuss the creation of these hubs.
  • Create a comprehensive database of African heritage professionals based on available information from different capacity building activities organized by the Unit 

Required Qualifications:

Education and experience:

  • A university degree or advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of project management, communities’ engagement, etc. 

Skills and competencies:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience with work related project coordination
  • Experience of SDGs indicators and/or UNESCO Culture|2030 indicators
  • Relevant experience working with UNESCO or other international organizations on similar assignments and knowledge.
