IFC—a member of the World Bank Group—is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2022, IFC committed a record $32.8 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity as economies grapple with the impacts of global compounding crises.
With climate change a strategic pillar of IFC’s business, the Climate Business Department (CBD) is charged with helping IFC build its portfolio in climate-smart sectors. CBD is responsible for driving growth across the corporation for projects that help mitigate or build resilience to climate change impacts. CBD works closely with other groups within IFC, including Infrastructure and Natural Resources, Manufacturing Agriculture and Services, Financial Institutions Group, Telecom Media and Technology, and Upstream and Advisory teams, as well as appropriate counterparts within the World Bank Group.
