History: Inspired by the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, and equipped by their medical training in India, and subsequently, training in public health and research at the Johns Hopkins University, the doctor couple Abhay and Rani Bang, founded Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) in 1986. SEARCH is an Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working in the poorest, semi-tribal district, Gadchiroli, in the state of Maharashtra, (India), 1000 km away from Mumbai. 

Vision: SEARCH’s vision is 'Aarogya-Swaraj' which means ‘People’s Health in People's hands’, by empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their own health, and thereby, help them achieve freedom from disease as well as dependence.

Mission: Mission of SEARCH is service, training, empowerment and research in health of the communities as expressed in its name.

Headquarter: Of SEARCH is ‘Shodhgram’, located 17 km from the district headquarter of the Gadchiroli district. The campus, spread over 47 Acres, is modeled over a mix of Gandhian Ashram, tribal village and modern facilities. It has more than 80 buildings including hospital, research center, training centers, training hostels, library, administrative offices, guest houses, tribal museum, community centers, mess cum dining facilities, residential facilities for 150 staff, solar plant, gym, playgrounds, walking track, organic farm and two lakes. 

With a team of 150+ professionals and 150+ Community Health Workers, and presence in Gadchiroli, SEARCH has emerged as one of the most reputed and credible grass roots service and research organization in India making important breakthroughs in the public health problems of India and globally over past 36years.

Hospital of SEARCH:

  • 120 Bed Hospital providing care to 55,000+ patient annually from 2500 villages.

  • Regular: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Infertility, Psychiatry & Mental Health including Addiction, Learning Disability, General Medicine & Pediatrics, Neurology, Diabetology, Physiotherapy, Musculoskeletal.
  • Special: Spine Care, Pain clinic, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Joint Care, ENT
  • Surgical Specialties – Spine Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, ENT Surgeries, Laparoscopy, Thyroid Surgeries, Gynecology, General Surgery, Gastro-surgery, Urology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Endoscopy. Annually ~700 surgeries.
  • Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Unit.
  • Para-clinical Services – Counselling, Psychometric tests, Hematology, Biochemistry, ECG, Blood Storage Unit, Digital X-ray, USG.

Job Description –

A) Resident Medical Officer:

  • To provide regular primary & secondary care services in OPD.
  • To provide basic emergency and medical care in IPD.
  • To provide pre and post-operative care during surgical camps in IPD.
  • To train the Nurses and other para-medical professionals as needed. 
  • Maintain regular patient and other hospital records as per need. 
  • Participating in other activities of SEARCH as required.

B) OBGY Coordinator:

  • The effort of SEARCH is to create a clear career progression and specialization path for Medical Officer, apart from her/his regular duties. 
  • SEARCH will provide learning opportunities through mentoring by eminent medical professionals, courses, workshops and visits to appropriate Institutions to the Medical Officer in OBGY for her/his systematic capacity building to provide specialized OBGY care over long term. 
  • As OBGY Coordinator, the roles will be: 
  • To provide care through the specialist Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Infertility OPD.
  • To provide care through specialize telemedicine OPD for advanced services as Infertility.
  • To identify patients and organize specialized Gynecology Surgery camps at regular interval.
  • To participate in the Surgery Camps in providing care. 
  • To participate in any clinical research in OBGY.

Candidate Profile:

  • MBBS / BAMS 
  • Ethical and value driven with strong belief in social sector. 
  • Proactive, hardworking and sincere.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in Marathi is required with fair written English skills
  • Ability to use MS Office on computer.
  • Minimum commitment of three years.
