Position Description:
Mucosal Immunology and Vaccinology Unit (MIVU) under the Infectious Diseases Division has focus on studies to understand the systemic and mucosal immunology of diseases with natural infections and its application and extension to better determine the vaccine efficacy. Emphasis has been on studies of cholera, Shigella, ETEC, typhoid and recently on COVID-19 research.
The Technical Assistant will report to the Laboratory Officer/Research Officer and will be responsible for the day-to-day laboratory management work, perform all tasks related to the collection of samples from field sites, receive study materials from field sites including study samples, washing laboratory glass wares, refill tips box and help in autoclaving. transportation, cleaning, and washing of lab ware, including lab bench-tops, with the goal of maintaining laboratory cleanliness in accordance with Bio-safety and ISO guidelines, as well as organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in –
Collect samples from different field sites and receive study materials from field sites including study samples;
Conduct preprocessing of samples for analysis in the laboratory.
Transport samples maintaining cold chain immediately after collection from the field.
Prepare the sample collection boxes with sufficient ice-packs and other relevant materials;
Maintain the centrifuge, Biosafety Cabinet, and other sampling tools daily.
Monitor temperature with proper documentation for laboratory working areas and lab freezers
Operate and handle a wide range of technical equipment including printer, computer, scanner etc.
Required qualification and experience:
SSC Pass or equivalent; However, educational qualification may be relaxed up to Class VIII for highly experienced candidates.
