Details:

Students who complete the two-year Master of Science in Sustainability program will be equipped with the theoretical understanding and practical skills required to help address sustainability-related problems.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be persons from developing countries* who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance
  • Applicants who are currently living in Japan under a working visa are NOT eligible for the scholarship
  • Applicants who want to pursue a second master’s degree at UNU-IAS are not eligible for the scholarship
  • A completed bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university or institution of higher education in a field related to sustainability (those who expect to receive a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent conferred before the entrance period of September 2022 may also apply)
  • A GPA of 2.8 or above on a 4.0 scale (equivalent to 70% on a 100 % scale) for the bachelor’s degree earned
  • English language proficiency.
  1. 600 on TOEFL – Paper-Based Testing (PBT) OR
  2. 100 on TOEFL – Internet-Based Testing (IBT) OR
  3. 7.0 on IELTS – Academic format
  • Students who possess a firm academic interest in the pressing global issues on the UN agenda, in particular those of sustainability, and a strong desire to contribute to the solving of problems concerning global environment and society through a transdisciplinary approach.
